Musings of an Earth Angel, published in December 2009, is my first book. It is a compilation of poems that come from my heart and my soul.
All those who played a part in my life’s journey had a profound effect on me and consequently upon my writing. My first exposure to poetry and the joys that it can bring to others was my father’s poems of love and adoration that he wrote for my mother. He traveled a great deal with his work, and he often left a poem for her to discover while he was away. Their love for each other began at the tender ages of fifteen and sixteen in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, which is also known as the “Honeymoon Capital of the World.” That is my birthplace, as well as that of my sister Marie and my brother Joe.
Their love was always like a fairytale romance. They were inseparable until my mom’s sudden passing in June of 2006 ~ with my dad following her four weeks later in July, of a broken heart. My parents, Pat and Gerry Herries, always believed that I would one day have a book of my poems published. It saddens me that that has finally come to pass when they are not here to see “our” dream realized. However, I believe in my heart of hearts ~ that they do know! Their smiling faces are beaming down upon me! I can feel it!
My daughters Shannon and Erin and my grandson Michael have been continued sources of inspiration for me ~ not only for my writing but for me as a person, as well. I continue to learn and grow through their examples ~ and through some of the life lessons that they provided me with. I love them beyond the stars.
I also owe a debt of gratitude to my dear friends Ilona, Sonia, and Hellen and to my loves ~ past and present. Thank you for your camaraderie, love, and support over the years. I hold a special place for each of you in my heart.
